The Concerns Of Mindy Kaling: Welcome! →
My fellow book nerdz keep an eye out for “The Office” funny womans upcoming literary project. Can’t wait! In the mean time read her new-esh blog.

About four years ago, I started a blog called “Things I’ve Bought That I Love”. I know, I know. You’re like: Mindy, of course we know your blog. We all lived and died to your postings on that site, you don’t...

Rodarte for Opening Ceremony FW11 Little Golden...
As the saying goes, better late than never. Its been well over a month that the Rodarte for Opening Ceremony FW11 look-book has been making its way around the internet. The Mulleavy sisters have masterfully created another cohesive collection that beautifully captures the essence of their inspiration, but is at the very heart is their own vision. This seasons was inspired by the...

BadBadNotGood
BBNG (bad bad not good) is a three piece comprised of Matt Tavares on keys, Alex Sowinski on drums and Chester Stone Hansen on bass. Theses Humber College students have been generating a lot of interest on the internet, even landing them a recent write up in LA Weekly.
Tonight at Red Light (1185 Dundas Street West, Toronto) is their debut performance and was graced with the opportunity to...

Tall Ships
Tall ships are a Nova Scotian icon in the summer time, lined up like soldiers along the Halifax harbour for tourists to salute. The image of such a majestic vessel on the cover of my guest book (more to follow on this) was a necessity. So once the book was completed I felt it would be a waste having only pulled the burnt image once. After some minor adjustments the prints were completed...

Map of the World
I struggled for many months with gift ideas to give family and friends who’ve gone above and beyond in helping with pending nuptial planning. It was important that it be something thoughtful and personal, so in the end decided making a print would be the best course of action.
The print is a map of the world with editions in two colour ways. WARM: pink, ocra, burnt umber and COOL: pale...

Nautiluss gets signed.
My dear friend Nautiluss was recently signed to Hemlock Recordings and ever since has been getting major play on the airwaves by some seriously heart-worthy dj’s (ie: Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson). I was blessed with the opportunity to design the logo for this new musical venture. It is based on the diamond origami fold, the base step needed to create some of the most complicated...

Bachelorette Thank You!
This past weekend my out-of-this-world-amazing friends threw me a bachelorette party that was filled with so many out-of-this-world surprises. The short version of the night involved a swimming pool hunt, animal prints galore, dancing, the police and queerabana grooves. A HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated for their tremendous generosity. It was the BEST BACHELORETTE EVER!

Coast Toting
Finished up screen printing the wedding welcome tote bags for my guests from “away” (if you are not from Nova Scotia than you are from “away”.) My mother did a fantastic job fabricating them, so many thanks to The MOM. Now I just need to find some Atlantic goodies to fill them with, any suggestions?

Anyone who knows me, knows that I do not like sitting in the sun. I will wear long sleeves any chance I get because the feeling of my exterior heating up like a bagel in a toaster makes my skin crawl…more like run, for shade or a large body of water. It also is known that the paler the skin in Chinese culture the bigger the dowry, so that should be helpful for my mother with my wedding...

The (not at all Royal) Wedding Thank Yous
Looks like all he printing for my (not so royal) wedding is wrapping up. Spent most of the morning cutting up sheets of paper in order to obtain one hundred plus A2 sized cards. The illustration ties back in with the place cards and wedding invitation - fisherman and his mermaid bride after then marriage is what I like to think. Now that Canada Post is back up and running I can start writing up...

Really pumped I do not wear make-up on a daily basis after having watched this video done up for NOWNESS by Dutch directors Lernert & Sander. They enlisted the expertise of make-up artist Ferry Van der Nat to apply 365 layers of “face” in one day.
Towards the middle of the video I couldn’t help thinking of my female classmates from high school and their obsession with...

I’ve never been a fan of wedding videos, but maybe I should start paying attention to them because this one by Shark Pig is THE BEST. It has a beautiful style that lends to some seriously dreamy nostalgia, reminds me a lot of the opening for the wonder years but romantic. I’m going to need one of these done up for my wedding. *super sigh.

F*CK DANCE LET'S D*INK: Canada D'eh ed.
The fourth installment of F*CK DANCE LET’S D*INK will be jumping off on Canada Day (July 1st) at Red Light (1185 Dundas Street W, Toronto), so I thought it would be great to screen print a small run of the posters for the big occasion. I based the image on vintage Canada Pacific posters mixed with a touch of fubar spirit. Nothing says True North more than Canadian tuxedos (head-to-toe...

After a month filled with social events, I was finally able to get back into the swing of screen printing and banged out 50 sheets of place seating cards plus tags for the Stephanie + Matthew wedding favors. Favors will be confectioneries from Robertson’s Candy, a family run candy shop in Truro - Nova Scotia (home of the groom). Robertson’s is well known for their barley candy...

The (not at all Royal) Wedding Invitations
Here are the complete Stephanie + Mathew wedding invitations and accompanying map with directions. More pics after the jump! Along with taking the “scenic” printing route I also decided to try my hand at calligraphy and wrote all reply plus guest addressed envelopes myself. The calligraphy could use more practice, perhaps when place card crafting time comes I’ll have nailed...

Wedding Screen Printing
I spent the most part of last week cooped up screen printing my wedding invitations. It was my first time printing outside of a proper studio and I have to say I am pretty pleased with the final results. I set up a small printing station in my office, turned the bathroom into a dark room for an hour and made the shoe shelves into a make shift drying rack. If this could be my full time gig I...

FOOD: mussels in an aromatic coconut broth
I can not believe it has taken me this long to make a food post, the ol’ball’n’chain and I are huge foodies. So if you have never cooked mussels before, March and April is as good as any time to get your hands dirty! I have never had a better mussel than one...

With wedding planning in full swing, this exhibition is a welcome break for my over frill-o-fied mind. R.S.V.P.H.R.H. puts into perspective how...

True Colours
Despite the huge relentless dumping of snow we got yesterday, spring is still on my mind. Not sure how the “fashionistas” of my neighbourhood will take to this spring/summer bold colour trend, but I for one would be happy to not see the pouty dark ghouls of last summer. Who wears black in the summer? Com’on!
Creamscicle orange, ultramarine blue, emerald green and bubblegum...

Bike season is here! So in the spirit getting back in the cycling saddle I’ve included a stunning film about the Keirin speed racers by Jonathan de Villiers for NOWNESS. This school of speedsters have been pushing the limits of riding fixed-gears way before they became a hip accessory, since 1948 in fact. The outcome? a roller-derby vibe of a state run industry that brings in millions of...

I have been a huge fan of The Gentlewoman since its release a year ago. Smooth crooning UK pop star Adele vacantly stares out from a light and airy seafoam green tint cover, dreaming of spring around the corner perhaps?. Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A
This week the Victoria and Albert Museum opened its retrospective into one of fashions most influential and mysterious designers, Yohji Yamamoto. Made famous in the eighties with his avant-guarde style, he was master of pushing the boundaries of gender identity with his use of exaggerated form and non-traditional fashionable textiles.

Pineapple Crush and Birch Beer Crush are hailed,...
