Rodarte for Opening Ceremony FW11 Little Golden Look Book

As the saying goes, better late than never. Its been well over a month that the Rodarte for Opening Ceremony FW11 look-book has been making its way around the internet. The Mulleavy sisters have masterfully created another cohesive collection that beautifully captures the essence of their inspiration, but is at the very heart is their own vision. This seasons was inspired by the “Nordic romance of Scandinavia”, introducing billowing dresses, Fair-Isle knitted sweaters mixed with utilitarian leather skirts. Shot by frequent Rodarte collaborator Autumn de Wilde, who seamlessly complimented the contents of the look book by adding a reminiscent graphic quality of 1950’s Swedish children’s book illustrations to the photographs. When I first saw the images on the OC blog I immediately was brought back to my childhood, where stacks of “Little Golden Books” covered the floor of my room (possibly the culprit for my banana complex, why did all the children have blond hair in those stories? ) What I appreciate about the look-book is that these creative women turned a possibly regular studio photoshoot session into something whimsical and thoughtful which seems to be quite characteristically Rodarte.
