As the saying goes, better late than never.  Its been well over a month that the Rodarte for Opening Ceremony FW11 look-book has been making its way around the internet.  The Mulleavy sisters have masterfully created another cohesive collection that beautifully captures the essence of their inspiration, but is at the very heart is their own vision.

True Colours

Despite the huge relentless dumping of snow we got yesterday, spring is still on my mind.  Not sure how the “fashionistas” of my neighbourhood will take to this spring/summer bold colour trend, but I for one would be happy to not see the pouty dark ghouls of last summer.  Who wears black in the summer? Com’on!

Creamscicle orange, ultramarine blue, emerald green and bubblegum pink are but a few of the colours used in Jil Sander’s SS11 ready-to-wear runway show, which set off an electrifying saturation buzz back in January. The collection propelled its viewers back to the height of United Colors of Benetton.

This chroma wave has reached many fashion shores so do not fret if you love this look but can’t afford a $1500 skirt.  Check out Zara, their March lookbook has some tintalizing ensembles that are more wallet friendly.

Rodarte on the range

Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A

The exhibition only runs until July 10th, 2011 so do not delay.  If you find yourself unable to make it to London check out the curators blog made specific for the exhibition, it chronicles the process of putting the show together from catalogs to dressing mannequins - a real gem for anyone interested in behind the scenes.

The Gentlewoman

As print media watches their culture fade to extinction from a catastrophic digital-age smothering like ash and pumice burying Pompeii, it is impressive to find new print magazines being established.  Especially when they are as inspiring and smart as “The Gentlewoman” sister to the immensely influential mens fashion magazine “Fantastic Man”.

I was somehow lucky enough to stumble across the last copy of this first issue at a favourite local press shop.  Having been a huge fan of Fantastic Man for several years but always somewhat jealous there has never been a female equivalent I immediately made the purchase.
